BUZZ featured and donated to a different apiary or bee advocacy organization at each performance at the Sargent Theatre!

March 24th: Chas Mraz from

Champlain Valley Apiaries distributed generous 3 oz. jars of honey and catalogs of his wonderful products. "Our mission, along with producing the highest quality honey, is to foster sustainable agriculture and promote the importance of honeybees to our food system. We are committed to protecting all pollinators, the environment, the well being of our employees, and the local community where we live and work. Champlain Valley Apiaries is committed to a triple bottom line, not only valuing profit, but seeking environmental excellence and social awareness within our company culture."

March 25th: Planet Bee (from San Francisco) was represented with t-shirts, caps, stickers and information packets.
Planet Bee's educational programs takes students outside, playing a crucial role in connecting children with the earth at the time when they are developing the values which will steer the course of their lives. "We envision a world in which all students feel empowered to take action for their planet, regardless of race, gender, class or location. Through our work, students will learn a love for our planet and the importance of individual action in global movements, and will become more equipped to tackle environmental problems in the future."

March 27th: Bee Raw provided informational bookmarks: see the video to the right for their Save the Bees Fund, which raises money for research to fully understand Colony Collapse Disorder (and go to their website for beautiful/delicious gifts & products).

March 30th: Tom Whitburn from Best Bees Company brought beekeeping materials and information
: At the Urban Beekeeping Laboratory & Bee Sanctuary, we know that honey bees are endlessly fascinating creatures, and are uniquely vital to our natural surroundings.  As pollinators of more than 100 fruit and vegetable crops in the U.S., honey bees are an integral contributor to a sustainable natural environment. Yet, owing to disease, exposure to pesticides, fungicides, and herbicides, as well as continued habitat loss, honey bee colonies throughout the world are suffering unprecedented devastation. Our mission: to raise funding for our research to improve bee health. Research projects involve the collaborative efforts of our beekeepers, multiple Ph.D.’s, and research interns, whose focus is on testing hypotheses to understand the natural world, as it pertains to bees.

March 31st: Sarah Red-Laird, The Bee Girl
The Bee Girl organization is a nonprofit with a mission to educate and inspire communities to conserve bees, their flowers, and our food system. The organization, founded by Sarah Red-Laird, aims to conserve our bees by educating the public on their importance through community classes and events, public lectures, our Kids and Bees program, the Next Generation Beekeepers Initiative, and our public lands for bees and beekeepers program. The Bee Girl organization also facilitates the Farming for Bees initiative, empowering, informing, and recognizing land managers who provide habitat for our bees.

April 1st: Yvette Oakley: Happy Bee Woman, an intern at Tremblay Apiaries and a student of Lackawanna College's Beekeeping program distributed brochures and samples. Yvette is a  budding beekeeper, which might inspire the hearts and minds of people because 'I have completely turned my life around in the last year in order to protect pollinators and engage beekeeping.'

April 2nd: Bee Different from Italy, allows young adults with disabilities to explore the complex world of bees through visual arts with workshops and public talks about bees, as well as shows of artworks. Last year they created an educational apiary--all hives were painted, decorated and placed in the organic farm, Agrighianda. (see their beautiful video to the right)
